Linoleum: a natural surface with a story

Linoleum was invented in England in the 1860s by Frederick Walton, and its name comes from the Latin linum (flax) and oleum (oil). More than 150 years later it is back as one of the most refined and responsible surfaces in contemporary interiors. Our linoleum is made almost entirely from natural ingredients: linseed oil pressed from flax seeds, pine resin, wood flour from certified forests, calcium carbonate and natural pigments, all laid on a backing made mostly of organic cellulose. The linseed oil is slowly oxidized and blended with the resin, then the material is left to mature in temperature-controlled rooms until it reaches its final character. The result is a 2 mm surface with a warm, velvety touch and a deep matte finish that absorbs light instead of reflecting it. It is also practical for daily life. It resists scratches and fingerprints, is naturally antistatic so it attracts less dust, and the oxidized linseed oil and resin naturally slow the growth of bacteria. It can be applied to cabinet doors, wall panels, tabletops and curved shapes, and it comes in a palette of earthy tones and sculpted textures such as Vienna straw, rope and woven patterns. Linoleum brings honest materials, quiet luxury and lasting quality into the home.

Soft by Nature

Linoleum begins with what the earth gives: linseed oil, pine resin, wood flour, natural minerals and pigments. Slowly matured and pressed together, these simple ingredients become a surface with a deep matte finish, a warm and velvety touch, and a quiet beauty that synthetic materials cannot imitate. It hides fingerprints, attracts less dust and is easy to care for, so it keeps its calm, elegant look day after day. Its muted, natural colors sit naturally beside wood, stone and textiles, bringing warmth and character to every interior.
